Travelling by Africa on a bicycle

MOROCCAN-BORN Adil Boudraa is flitting by Zululand as partial of his implausible tour to revisit each nation on a African continent – on a bicycle.

The 26-year-old began cycling from his hometown Kenitra in Morocco in Mar 2016 and has trafficked thousands of kilometers by Mauritania, Senegal, Zambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, Gabon and now South Africa..

He arrived in Empangeni final week and was welcomed by associate Moroccan Aziz Abouainan, who supposing him with a place to stay for dual nights. He had trafficked around Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban.

‘I used to transport a lot, even inside my country, infrequently on feet and infrequently on a bicycle. Then a suspicion of furloughed Africa on my bicycle started to build adult in my mind. we suspicion it would be utterly engaging to transport over a borders.

‘I had formerly trafficked from Morocco to Senegal to Dakar, and afterwards we felt we could make it to a southern tools of Africa,’ Adil said.

He says he underwent some earthy training during a gym and on his bicycle before he began his expedition.

His bicycle carries a large load, that includes a bag with clothes, H2O bottles, a apparatus kit, inflatable torch, a sleeping bag and a tent, that he pitches adult when tired or night time sets in.

‘When it gets dim we have to make a decision. When I’m not tighten to a city, city or village, we set adult my tent in a jungle and rest.

Animal factor

‘I don’t stay in one place for really long. we mostly transport during daytime if we think there competence be animals around, since they are defunct in daytime. we also change my track if we don’t feel safe,’ he said.

Adil, who has spent time with opposite kinds of people and tribes opposite a continent and sampled several cuisine, says this is all usually an adventure.

Although he stays preoccupied and vehement about a tour that lies ahead, it has not always been well-spoken sailing.

‘I have engaged malaria 10 times and we was arrested twice for not carrying a required travelling documents,’ he said.

He says a many frightening distress was in a Congo when he was followed by a squad of group carrying swords who suspected him of solid smuggling.

‘I suspicion they were going to kill me, though after they searched my belongings, they let me go.’

Despite a challenges, Adil who left home with usually $300 in his slot that he finished in Senegal, has been advantageous adequate to accommodate good Samaritans along a way.

‘I request my tour on Facebook and that is how my family has been means to keep in hold with me. Sometimes we get people on amicable media who entice me to come revisit them when we get to their country. we never run out of something to eat or money,’ he says.

Adil is now streamer to Mozambique with his final end being Egypt.
