The Top 9′s ‘I’m with the band night’ performances were a hodge-podge of the good and the bad, with Gummy Bears and shoe-stealing in between.

Alex Preston was the first to take the stage, performing No Doubt’s Don’t Speak. The judges had positive things to tell Alex, like how his voice is “undeniable” as referred to be Jennifer. However, the I Luh Yah Papi singer also notes that Alex’ soft rendition of the otherwise butt-kicking track “sucked the energy out of the song.” Harry also advised Alex to move about and “engage the audience.”

Doing Florence and the Machine’s Shake It Out, Majesty Rose took the stage next and got the crowd’s adrenaline pumping. Harry remarked that she was very close to owning the stage and Keith said that the song was a great choice for the idol. Performance-wise, Jennifer gave a rating of 10 but said that “vocally, it was all over the place.”

Dexter Robert’s rendition of Little Big Town’s Boondocks was the third performance. Based on the judges’ comments, the trio was not pretty much impressed, even with the giant Gummy Bear. All three commented on how Dexter should show the audience and the judges something of himself though in the end, Jennifer praised him for doing a good job.

16-year old Malaya Watson wowed the judges next, taking on The Beatles’ Long and Winding Road. Needless to say, all three judges were all praises for the idol, with Keith saying that the performance was beautiful and Jennifer saying that her song blew her away. Harry also said, “With a voice like yours, ears like yours, and an attitude like yours you can really become something great. Nice job tonight.”

Plain White T’s Hey There Delilah echoed out from the stage and from a floral polo-clad young man at that! Sam Woolf had nothing else but his guitar and light bulbs on stage while singing the woes of a man in a long-distance relationship. Jennifer wanted to know who Delilah was, saying “If I could say one thing, it’s did you have anyone in mind that you were singing to? You know, so we really get the feeling that there is a Delilah out there.”

Jessica Meuse took the stage next with Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac. The performance was Harry’s favorite from the idol from Alabama, saying that it was focused. Jennifer also said that Jessica’s confidence seems to be improving and that she is now connecting with the audience.

Harry thinks that CJ Harris’ version of If It Hadn’t Been for Love by The SteelDrivers still has room for improvement. “Sit down to a piano and pound the notes out, you have to work on your pitch,” he advised. Caleb Johnson sang Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin, a performance which struck Jennifer as sexy. Harry and Keith were also all praises for the idol.

The Top 9′s ‘I’m with the band night’ ended with Evanescence’s Bring Me to Life which was performed by Jena Irene. “Your voice is phenomenal,” says Jennifer. But will it be phenomenal enough to keep her from going home on the next American Idol episode?
